In a once prosperous but now isolated Maori town on the north eastern coast of New Zealand lives a tight knit Maori community along with its
matriarch. She is an enormously wise and revered woman and Rewi, a man haunted by his past and his fears is one person in need of her understanding. This is a saga of life in Maori society which climaxes with a sweeping finale. At the end of the 1980s when it was first released, this
movie was an important milestone in the burgeoning Maori screen industry and even after 30 years, it is still the only feature length film directed by a female Maori filmmaker. Aussie & Kiwi Film Fest will screen the newly digitised version of the movie which had its world premiere at the 2019 Venice Film Festival.
