MARTINA VACKOVÁ

Through these reciprocal festivals in Central Europe and Australia, Martina has sought to maintain a bridge between the two continents which are both linked by a love of cinema. Martina spent eight years living in Sydney, working for the public multicultural radio and television station SBS (Special Broadcasting Service). She primarily worked in the Czech language program and, as a film journalist, she also worked with other SBS Radio language programs (the station broadcasts in 76 languages). Since returning to the Czech Republic, she has worked as a managing producer at Czech Radio. She also created and wrote the film magazine “Filmobraní” on Rádio Česko.

In her capacity as a journalist and film professional, she regularly attends leading film festivals including Cannes, Berlinale and Karlovy Vary. She has also attended many Australian film festivals in Sydney, Canberra and Adelaide as well as the festivals in Busan, Linz, Chemnitz, Mannheim, Vienna, Graz, Bratislava, Geneva, Cottbus and Thessaloniki, among others.

In 2002, the prestigious French magazine Paris Match called her “The Travelling Czech” in an interview about the Cannes Film Festival. She was hand-picked for the interview as a promising young European journalist out of 3910 accredited journalists at the festival.

She is a member of FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Critics) and the Association of Czech Film Critics.
